I grew up on job sites and have been the primary handyman in every house I have owned. I am comfortable with everything from basic hand tools to framing and finish carpentry.

Both, depending on what makes sense for the job. I lean heavily cordless for portability and convenience — but I'll tell you when corded is worth the trade-off.

No brand loyalty here. I buy what performs and recommend what I'd buy again. You'll see Milwaukee, DeWalt, Ryobi, and others — the brand matters less than the results.

How do you rate value on expensive tools?

I think in terms of cost-per-use over a 2–3 year horizon. A $300 tool I use every weekend is a better value than a $100 tool that sits in the garage collecting dust.

What's your testing process for power tools?

I run them on real projects — not benchmarks. If a drill is reviewed here, I drilled hundreds of holes with it. If a saw is reviewed, I cut actual lumber on an actual project.
